There is a minor hit by Prince (no relation) that starts off with the line “Shut Up Already, damn!”.

If the song was written today you would swear he was talking about the mainstream media.

On Fox News this week one of the reporters casually mentioned how their expenses were being paid by the Pentagon and they just had to put out whatever propaganda the military wanted.

It’s become obvious to astute news watchers that Barack Obama is not running against Hillary Clinton (she can’t win) he’s running against the mainstream press.

The third rail of government is desperately trying to find relevance in todays info saturated world.

How do they do it?

Rarely by investigating and reporting what they find. Good investigative reporters are hard to find these days.

No they do it by following and creating drama that doesn’t exist.

The Hillary Clinton Bosnia lie was all over the internet wwaayy before CBS decided to cover it (they were the first). The chatter on the internet was if the mainstream media would cover it.

This was not a good story for the press because it goes against the horserace theory. No one is trying harder to make the Presidential Race more competitive than the mainstream press.

Americans like a close race. Just look at the ratings for football and basketball.

We love competition.

The fact that the presidential contest is over means that the newscasters would have to find another story to fill the 24 hour news cycle.

And a close race is way more interesting than wtf we’re going to do about global warming, health care and an economy off the rails.

“Shut Up Already” indeed!

Here is the really really bad thing about the media – over 80 percent of all we know are things the media told us. Very few of us can make up our own minds. And very few of that very few can independently source the truth from the myriad of voices out there.

Here is the script the media has so far used in this election:

Scene 1: Pre-Iowa

Act 1: The election is really between John McCain and Hilary Clinton.

Act 2: Supporting acts will be Rudy and Edward.

Act 3: (Twist) No, let us make the supporting acts Mitt and Obama

Act 4: (Oops) we drop McCain because his base has dropped him.

Act 5: The election is now between Rudy Giuliani and Hilary Clinton (a subway series)

Scene 2: Iowa

Act 1: (Damn) The election is now between Huckabee and Obama (who are these two people? Please get us back to the real beginning)

Act 2: (After New Hampshire) The election is now between Hilary Clinton and John McCain

Act 3: Supporting cast are Obama and Mitt ( That actor that was supposed to take over from Mitt got a bad review)

Act 4: (After South Carolina- remembering the 90s, a new modification is needed.) The election is now between Obama and McCain

Act 5: (Damn, who is this Obama? – another modification.) The election is between Clinton and McCain.

Act 6: Final supporting cast will be Obama and Huckabee.

Scene 3: The final Decision.

Act 1: (We have to find a way back to the original idea)

Act 2: (We have to find a way back to the original movie idea.)

Act 3: (Yes, we can say it) The election will be between Clinton and McCain.

Act 4: (We have to find a way to make that happen.)
Act 5: (While we are at it, we have to take into account the November winner we have chosen –, the war hero, the straight shooter - Senator John Sydney McCain. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/26/opinion/26gabler.html?ref=opinion

The media needs to understand that if they don’t get right now, they won’t be ever able to. People, especially coming generation, have lost, or they never had, faith in traditional media, which is not a nice thing to happen; because they won’t listen to the news which is not agreeable to them.

The lack of credibility will allow anybody to dust off the point by saying that it is a planted one or pure creation of imagination. Lets hope that social media helps in bringing back the lost faith in ‘NEWS’
